THANK YOU FOR VISITING!

About Eric:

Eric was raised in Columbia, Tennessee. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1983, after which he moved to Atlanta to attend DeVry Institute of Technology, now DeVry University.

During his time in Atlanta, Eric became interested in Civil War history. He became an active re-enactor and was an extra in the movie Sweet Home Alabama. He served as an instructor with the National Civil War Artillery Association, certifying cannoneers in the safe firing of cannons. He was also a member of the North-South Skirmish Association, a national organization that live-fires cannons in competition. Over the past several decades, he has attended many re-enactments and living history events. He uses this past as an excuse to claim he can’t hear his wife when she calls for him to take out the trash.

Eric is married to his high-school Sweetheart Lisa. They spend weekends taking (Lisa's) Abarth 124 Spider roadster on trips.

Eric believes in giving back to his community and has served in numerous leadership and advisory roles, including:

President, Maury County Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy Alumni Association (2014)

New Board Member of the Year, Boys and Girls Club of Maury County (2019)

President, Columbia Noon Rotary Club (2019); Paul Harris Fellow recipient

President, Maury County Historical Society (four years)

President, Columbia First United Methodist Church Administrative Council

  Committee member, County Ethics Committee

Board Member, Maury County APTA (Columbia Athenaeum)

Eric is currently serving his 12th year as County Commissioner for the Second District in Maury County. He served seven years as Chairman of the Commission’s Building

Committee and helped lead the construction of the new Central High School in 2015 and

the Maury County Judicial Center. Eric also helped introduce the Financial Management

Act, which improved county finances, including those of the School Board. He recently completed his second term as Chairman of the County Commission and currently serves

in the following leadership roles:

   Chairman, Administration Committee (2025)

   Chairman, Building Committee (2025)

   Member, County Financial Management Board

   Member, County Ethics Committee

Member, Courthouse Steering Committee (appointed by Mayor Butt), overseeing

the renovation of the 120-year-old Maury County Courthouse

In February 2018, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam named Eric an Honorary

Colonel Aide-de-Camp for his service to the people of Maury County. In 2020, he was

also named a Kentucky Colonel. Eric is also a Tennessee Squire. In November of 2024

Eric was awarded the GARRETT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
For outstanding service in preserving the history of Maury County:
Oversight of the Time Capsule in the cornerstone of the Judicial Center from concept to placement
Service on the Board of Directors for the Anthenaeum/ Elm Springs/ APTA/ and

Maury County Historical Society
Spearhead of the Preservation of the 1905 Maury County Courthouse

These experiences make Eric the positively perfect choice to serve as the next Mayor of Columbia.
